Details

This spectacular antique Victorian gemstone Harlequin brooch is Circa 1860.

All set in Sterling Silver.

Adorned with natural gemstones all round and forget me nots in between.

Forget-me-not, O Lord! is what a poor German knight shouted as he fell into a river. He and his lady were picking flowers by the side of the river at the time when the poor knight suddenly fell in and sank to the bottom.

Upon his cries to the Lord, he threw the blue posy of flowers to his loved one. Hence, the concept of remembrance, eternal love and faithfulness grow from this.

Amethysts, Peridots, white Sapphire, pink Sapphire and blue Sapphires chase around the outer gallery, each one measures 0.25ct in size.

Two large emerald cut Citrines sit in the centre measuring over 8ct each with a Diamond shaped Amethyst sat in between.

Harlequin jewellery became extremely popular in the Victorian era. Beginning with Harlequin rings which were full of colour just like the kaleidoscopic costumes of the 16th Century European comedy actors known as Harlequins.

This brooch looks wonderful when worn, full of colour!

Steeped in Victorian history.

It weighs 21 grams

It measures 53mm across x 32mm down

The Citrines measure 14mm across x 10mm down

The central Amethyst measures 6mm across x 12mm down

The stones surrounding measure 4mm x 4mm

In excellent condition all round.
