This beautiful gold BROOCH BUCKLE PENDANT is set with a lovely
high relief carving portrait in Volcanic Lava. Circa 1860
Set in 18ct yellow gold with lovely cannetille workmanship around the outer gallery of the lava.
The beautiful high relief carving is very well executed masterfully hand carved and project such fine examples of cameo / goddesses.
The cameo has developed a smoothness which has developed with age Very good condition all round Volcanic lava jewellery traditionally came from the lava of Vesuvius which erupted in 79AD destroying Pompeii.
This type of jewellery became popular during the 'Grand Tour' days of the English aristocracy in the 19th century.
This can be converted to a buckle, pendant with ribbon around the neck a brooch even, it really is superb.
