VICTORIAN BULL MOUTH SHELL CAMEO BROOCH
This stunning antique Victorian cameo brooch is made with Bull mouth shell. Circa 1860
Set in 18ct Gold gilt.
The wonderful Cameo is set in Bull mouth shell and depicts a beautiful Bacchante lady, a follower of the Greek God Bacchus wearing a lions pelt, holding up a wine cup and the thyrsus which is a pine-cone topped staff. She is also surrounded by lovely detail in her dress and hair.
Bullmouth Shell has been popular for many years as a base for Cameo carvings for it’s beautiful natural patterning which takes expert skill to carve.
The cameo is displayed in a beautiful Gold gilt twisted gallery depicting four lovely detailed leaves.
Set with a secure C catch and pin.
Purchased in London and steeped in English history. The brooch has truly stunning workmanship and looks fabulous when worn.
