ANTIQUE VICTORIAN TURQUOISE HEART CLADDAGH LOCKET RING 9CT GOLD DATED 1872
Recently Viewed
A pretty antique Claddagh ring from the mid-Victorian era, hallmarked and dated Birmingham, 1872. The 9ct gold band loops around to form two open hands clasped around a turquoise encrusted heart.
The Claddagh ring originated in Ireland in the 1700s and usually depicted two hands clasped around a heart with a crown on top. The symbols represented friendship, love and loyalty, as in the old Irish saying, “With these hands, I give you my heart and crown it with my love”.
It would make the perfect gift for a loved one and features a small, hidden locket on the reverse where a lock of hair or miniature photograph can be held and treasured.
