ANTIQUE VICTORIAN DEAREST GEMSTONE ACRONYM RING DATED 1889
A wonderful antique late Victorian acronym ring featuring a row of gleaming pearls across the top and a line of colourful gemstones across the bottom which form the acronym “DEAREST”: Diamond, Emerald, Amethyst, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire & Topaz.
Acronym rings, or “DEAREST” rings were popular in the Victorian era and were used to express a secret, romantic message to their loved one spelt out in gemstones, reminding them how dear they were to their heart.
The ring is all 18ct yellow gold and complete with clear London hallmarks within the band that date it to 1889. It would make a beautiful gift for your nearest and dearest.
