ANTIQUE GEORGIAN LONG MOURNING NECKLACE WITH AGATE LOCKET VINAIGRETTE
This is a fabulous Georgian long Mourning necklace that leads to a large locket set in 18ct Gold on Pinchbeck.
This is the longest Mourning necklace we have ever exhibited for sale.
The locket is large, set with a large polished Agate on both sides, fancy Gold gilt workmanship around the locket too.
Mourning jewellery mirrored the lives and times of the people who wore it.
It was a souvenir to remember a loved one, a reminder to the living of the inevitability of death, a status symbol.
The Agates are beautifully cut and polished showing their natural grain from within.
Set with Gold panels on the hair which is beautifully plaited.
The locket opens to hold a vinaigrette compartment where snuff would have been stored, the right side of the locket can also hold a photograph.
This is an incredible piece of time gone by.
The necklace just slips over the head, this really is special.
Steeped in English history purchased in London.

The necklace measures 38 inches in length.
The snuff vinaigrette section measures 3cm down x 2.5cm across.
