ANTIQUE VICTORIAN SCOTTISH LOCKET BROOCH AGATE STAR SILVER CIRCA 1860
A wonderful Antique Scottish brooch made during the Victorian era, Circa 1860. The piece is decorated with a colourful array Agates cut and polished to fit the brooches unique design. They display beautiful earthy colours with some beautiful banded sections that have a lovely pink hue.
Scottish jewellery grew in popularity in the mid- 1800s as Queen Victoria’s frequent trips to her Scottish Castle Balmoral saw her return with Scottish souvenirs and jewellery which influenced the trend in Britain.
The locket in the centre stands out from the gallery and is engraved with an ornate star. It opens up to reveal a layer of beautiful plaited brown hair behind a glass window.
The brooch is modelled in solid Silver with intricate foliate engravings around the border and edges. It is truly remarkable and displays the exquisite workmanship of the time.
