Jewellery For Your Wedding Day – The Bidding Process

Posted By: Daniel Published: 13/12/2016

You may not have considered purchasing your wedding jewellery at auction – however, it’s an excellent way to have the jewellery of your choice at a price far less than you would pay on the high street.

Fellows, who we've teamed up with and have very kindly put together this post for us, have a wealth of jewellery specialists on hand to give you free and impartial advice to help you find some beautiful pieces.

Many of the diamonds at auction are accompanied by independent grading reports. So where do you start?

1. Browse through a current Antique & Modern Jewellery catalogue, if any lots catch your eye we provide full condition reports which explain the item in detail.

2. You’re now in the position to bid on an item – which type of bid are you going to place? Here are your options:

Commission bid – Do you know the maximum amount of money you are willing to spend? Are you busy on the day of the actual auction? If so, the commission bid is for you.

Commission bids are placed before the auction takes place and will appear on the auctioneers book on the day of the sale. This is a maximum bid and we will bid on the item on your behalf up to this figure.

Telephone bid – Do you want to know how the bidding increments are increasing and base your bid on this? Would you like to speak to a member of staff in the room at the second your item is being sold? If you are answering yes to the above then book a telephone bid with us!

When your item is about to feature in the auction, you will be called you and read out the bids in real time. If you want to bid, the person on the phone will do this for you on your behalf.

Live bidding – Are you able to watch the auction live and bid on your computer? This is available through live bidding partners and enables you to bid from your computer no matter where you are in the world.

Ready to take your first steps into the auction world?
