Engagement rings worn by the British royal family

The British Royal Family are constantly in the media, with their outfits, appearance and jewellery examined on a daily basis. The British public is always interested in the trends adopted by rings adorning the fingers of the royals, so let’s take a peek at their choices and maybe you can be inspired too!

Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth’s engagement ring was a simple yet eloquent 3 carat diamond ring, next to five smaller diamonds all set in platinum. Prince Philip was involved in the creation of the unique ring, with the diamonds coming from his mother’s tiara.

Kate Middleton aka The Duchess of Cambridge

Kate received Princess Diana’s distinctive and eye-catching 18 carat blue sapphire engagement ring during her engagement to Prince William. Princess Diana specifically chose this ring out of a jeweller’s collection, with jewellery historian Leslie Field stating, “She told me it definitely wasn't the biggest, she simply thought it was very beautiful.”

Camilla Parker-Bowles aka The Duchess of Cornwall

A favourite of the Queen Mother, the 1930s art deco ring was resized to fit Camilla's finger. The ring features a large, square-cut diamond. Recently introduced were the modern rectangular baguette diamonds, giving the ring a breath of contemporary style.

Wallis Simpson aka The Duchess of Windsor

Fitting to the epic love story, The Duchess of Windsor wore a dazzling 19.77-carat emerald ring by Cartier, flanked by diamond baguettes, engraved with the personal message “We are ours now 27 X 36” (the date of her divorce proceedings from her then husband!).

Zara Phillips

Rather than opt for an antique or family heirloom, Mike Tindall chose a striking piece of jewellery; an engagement ring featuring a single solitaire diamond in the centre, set on a double platinum band with pave-set diamonds. Zara has been quoted as saying that marriage is something that, “I will only ever do once.”

Any engagement is exceptional and incomparable, but when the whole world is waiting to catch a glimpse of your sparkling ring, only the finest will do. Engagement rings are important tokens of an individual’s love, they represent your unique relationship, a symbol of true and enduring love for one another.

If you're looking for an engagement ring that truly captures all of the above, Laurelle Antique Jewellery are here to help.
