This fabulous 15ct yellow gold Victorian brooch is made of hand carved hardstone.
Circa 1880 - 1900.
The fabulous hardstone cameo is carved superbly and executed with high relief workmanship, depicting a lovely profile of a lady.
The carving shows the ringlets in her hair, detailed face and earrings.
Hardstone is a strong, durable gemstone that takes expert skill to carve.
Cameo’s have been carved in gemstone since ancient times with the most popular motif for a cameo being the profile of a woman.
Pearls chase around the gallery of the brooch in a lovely elegant 15ct yellow gold frame.
The trio of pearls at the bottom swings independently.
Pearls have a wonderful lustre with a rich creamy tone, they are lovely lustrous and natural.
A pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers.
The Brooch is complete with gold, safety chain.
This really is a beautiful Brooch and is steeped in English history.
