An exquisite Antique mid Victorian Cameo brooch hand carved from black Jet. It depicts the side profile of an elegant lady with leaves in her long hair and displays intricate detailing throughout.
Jet was brought to the attention of the world by Queen Victoria who wore Jet jewellery as part of her mourning attire. It is a type of brown coal, a fossilised wood from an ancient tree which today is highly collectable and sought after worldwide.
The Cameo has been kept in excellent condition has been updated more recently with the addition of a new pin and safety catch.
